The movie, “Room” is a Canadian-Irish film. “Room” is based on the book written by Emma Donoghue which is of the same name. The film received positive reviews from both fans and critics alike and was nominated for many prestigious awards. The movie has an 8.3 on IMDB and a high rating of 94% on rotten tomatoes.
The story revolves around two main characters — Joy, who is played by actress Brie Larson and her son Jack, played by Jacob Tremblay. Joy had been kidnapped by “Old Man Nick” about seven years ago and trapped in his gardening shed, which Jack calls “the room”. Nick is Jack’s biological father and routinely rapes Joy.
Jack has spent his entire life in the room and has not seen the outside world. The movie deals with his and her mother’s struggle with dealing in such a confined space and their attempt to survive. Will they be able to make it out of the room? If they could, would Jack be able to deal with the outside world? Would Joy be able to manage to recover from her horrible traumatizing experiences in the hands of Nick?
The movie is brilliantly told, well paced and one hell of an emotional rollercoaster. The soundtrack is amazing, with plenty of wonderful instrumentals which fit each scene perfectly.
The acting in this movie was superb. Brie Larson did quite a brilliant job at playing the hard driven, emotionally traumatized Joy. She won a well deserved “Best Actress In A Main Role” award for her role. Jacob Tremblay was also exceptional. In my opinion he should have, at least been nominated for an Oscar.
As mentioned earlier, “Room” was nominated for many awards including the Academy awards and the Golden Globes, ranging from best actress to best motion picture of the year. Brie Larson snatched both the Academy and golden globe award for best actress. However, I think it should have also won the Oscar for best picture.
Overall, “Room” was simply brilliant. It was a brilliant story, laced and intertwined with beautiful music, good directing and stunning acting. It was an emotional movie from the start to finish and it even had me at the verge of tears at many points, and even had me bawling my eyes out at one point. Then at other points, the movie made me smile till my cheeks hurt. Watching the movie made me realize a lot of things. Among those is how amazing our world truly can be and also a lot about love and just how strong it can be. I would strongly recommend anyone to see this movie, it is simply brilliant.
